I thought I had read every Anne Tyler novel published, so was surprised to come across this one on my bookshelf and realize I hadn’t read it. Another surprise – it’s the only one of her novels I haven’t liked. As with all of her books,…

Liam is an unlikely protagonist, yet Anne Tyler moves him along through his life in a talented way that made me anxious to see what could happen next. Beginning with a break-in at his new/old apartment after being released from a teaching…

I'm afraid I have to agree with Joni. I usually enjoy Anne Tyler, but this book was boring and I found the protagonist pathetic and unlikeable. He needed to get a life. He did not, and the reader suffers.

This book was too much like everyday life...and a little boring. It does not take us anywhere interesting in terms of landscape or people. It was too mundane for me.

A quick read but not a lot seemed to happen. A lot of time spent thinking about how things made the main character feel, which is never my favorite. Well written though, and perhaps just better suited to someone else.

I loved this book. It is so well written and the story is so extraordinarily ordinary, but it has alot of layers that makes you think about this story long after you have read it.

A gently funny and comtemplative look at a man, recently forced into retirement, who wakes to find that he has been violently assualted. Worse, he has no memories of the attack. His fixation on reclaiming these memories brings him to what…
Liam Pennywell is downsized from his teaching job and makes some adjustments in his life. But, oh, what adjustments! Classic Anne
Tyler. This is a good one, right up there with favorites like 'Saint Maybe,' 'Dinner at the Homesick…
