Tom Langdon, a weary, cash-strapped journalist, must get to Los Angeles to spend Christmas with his girlfriend. Flying is not an option, so he opts for a transcontinental train ride -- thus beginning one of the most hilarious and heartwarming journeys ever. Along the way he encounters mechanical failures, derailments, and the odd eccentric, including Agnes Joe, who rides trains all of the time, though no one knows why. There's also a mysterious passenger whom Tom suspects may be a fugitive, an avalanche that threatens everyone's Christmas plans, and an unexpected romance. As the mighty Southwest Chief chugs from Washington, D.C., to the City of Angels via Chicago, Tom Langdon's unforgettable train adventure will rekindle the holiday spirits of one and all -- and reacquaint listeners with the magic that makes Christmas truly special.

It is short and I enjoyed it. Fun sound effects of the train and piano really sets the holiday mood nicely. This is lite fare not the usual Baldacci stuff. Parts of the plot are difficult to believe but it's all in good fun and I rolled with it and enjoyed myself. After this I listened to The Forgotten.

I really enjoyed the ending and was not disappointed.

Take a cross-country train trip just before Christmas; add a big movie director, a couple eloping, a love affair rekindled, a cat burglar, a boa constrictor, an avalanche and more. . . What do you get? An entertaining holiday read from David Baldacci. There are many humorous moments and even some danger, although not up to the usual Baldacci standards of peril.

I liked Tom and his experiences on a trip where he set out to follow the steps of Mark Twain and fulfill a last wish of his dying father while also going to meet his current girlfriend for the holidays. The well-placed plot twists were also welcome and expected from Baldacci. Get a hot chocolate or a cappuccino and curl up in your favorite chair for a break from the stress of the season.

This was a sort of a romantic comedy with a twist. Excellent book, with your typical Baldacci surprise at the end. Light reading, very enjoyable and fun.
