A romantic story, filled with lost lovers, ghosts in the moonlight, and a family mystery that our young heroine is determined to unearth. Curl up and enjoy a good old-fashioned read.
I very much wanted to like this book...but didn't. It had it's moments, but I just didn't feel connected to the main character at all. The author's writing style leaves me a bit cold so I don't feel like I care what happens to any of the characters. A real disconnect for me.
Reminiscent of Theodore Dreiser?s masterpiece An American Tragedy, this book evokes a time period and lifestyle that is richly detailed in the characters and setting. Maisie Thomas is a typical romantic young woman who is waiting for her life to start - she is tired of only reading novels. After arriving at their Summer hotel, her family witnesses a tragic death of two lovers. The feelings that are awakened by her experiences sets Maisie on a path that she has never anticipated and she discovers the secret of Grange House.
