The Christmas Day Kitten is a very sweet book about a reticent cat who visits a kindly woman with basset hounds and a gentle veterinarian. The cat comes and goes, but on one Christmas morning the bedraggled feline comes carrying a skinny kitten in her mouth.

This story is close to my heart because when we were living in Oregon we had a visitor cat just like 'Debbie'. We simply called her 'Black Cat'. She would come around for little treats and milk but refused to come inside or any cuddles. A few months in, we found her in the open carport with a litter of kittens. They grew under our watchful care and when they were old enough Black cat just disappeared. We were able to give all but one away. Yep, that kitten with the orange eyes road to the new house 5 hours away on my husbands shoulder. Pumpkin, like her mother, would not come in the house, but oh how she adored my husband. She would be out roaming but the moment she heard his car she came running to him.

4.5 stars for a sweet and kind story.
