I read this book in either the fifth or sixth grade. I remember liking it, and I remember that it taught me about the tyranny of the crowd and the subtle dictatorship of peer pressure. The book taught me about enforced conformity and about historical revisionism, all in the context of a fun children's fantasy adventure. Well worth recommending.

I first read this in grade six as a novel study and I've loved it ever since. It's so good that I can read it as an adult and still enjoy it.

Loved this book as a child, and it stood the test of time amazingly well for me.

I loved this book so much when I read it in fifth grade that I chose it for a "book response" project and eulogized the dramatic adventure in a poem, which I can still remember.
