I guess after hearing all the rave reviews and this being a National Book Award finalist, I was expecting to be blown away. I wasn't. I didn't feel invested in any of the characters.

The main character will make you uncomfortable, you will likely hate him. And in that respect, the author did a good job showing off his character.

The whole point of this book is how deluded Keir is, he really believes is a good guy, not a creep. Total unreliable narrator.

I'm not really sure where to go with this one. To be perfectly honest, I don't think I would recommend it to anyone. What does one take away from this story? The writing is good but Keir is such a creeper that I didn't get any pleasure out of reading it. Even the end is vague and unfulfilling. Blech.

A rather lame book about a troubled teen who thinks he's not capable of committing vulgar acts (for example, rape). It's much too short and the ending doesn't portray much. Keir is graduating high school, however, he acts like a 10-year old boy. The author leaves the reader unsatisfied with the characters, for they don't have much emotional depth and are quite boring. A waste of time

I thought I'd hate this book, but Lynch does a phenomenal job of letting Keir tell in his own words precisely how he isn't the man he thinks he is. The self-justification and rationalization and refusal to take or even recognize responsibility ring so true. This is not an easy book, but it is a very, very good one.
