Unfortunately this movie adaptation didn’t suit well with a number of patrons
As in most versions, this one is just a little different from the others. The costumes and sets looked beautiful but couldn't tell. The video was dark and it wasn't quite black & white or color. It was drab & dingy and didn't do the story credit. Don't know if the tape was worn or if it was how it was taped. Surprised to see Macaulay Culkin as the Nutcracker/Prince but he was ok. The only part we were disappointed in was the swan. Overall, it's still the wonderful Tchaikovsky story.
This is the best version of The Nutcracker. Macaulay Culkin is great as the prince. The Rudolf Nureyev version of The Nutcracker is also good.
This ballet's attractions include excellent mouse costumes, a strong corps of well trained child dancers with prominent roles, and a technically superb Darci Kistler as the Sugarplum Fairy. Its down side includes special effects such as a flying bed that look clunky and archaic by today's sophisticated special-effects standards. Watch for a relatively uncorrupted Macaulay Culkin as the Nutcracker.

Amazing, breathtaking sets, gorgeously filmed. The best Nutcracker I've ever seen.
