A great older picture book by Leo Politi, who chronicled the many diverse communities of Los Angeles in his stories, sketches, and paintings. Emmet tells the tale of a dog who redeems himself one night after many years of annoying his neighborhood. This book beautifully renders the sense of community to be found within neighborhoods in large cities, and is a forerunner of this year's Newbery Medal winner, "Last Stop on Market Street."
