The fact that the reviews below are so mixed should tell you that it takes "quirkiness" to a new level. I'm coming down on the positive side for this movie. I liked Charlyne and her best friend and I thought they were sweet together. Michael Cera is just the kind of guy who would fall for such an odd girl. She is very awkward and it can be hard to watch at times - the deleted scene of her just saying "Ummm" and stammering out questions is hilarious as well.

This is an offbeat movie about finding out how to relate to love. Just like first sexual experiences, its awkward and unexplored territory. What makes the heart tick and the mind tick. If everyone forgot their first ventures into romance, this movie would remind you. Because Charlyne is seeking explanations about the nature of love, its obvious She hasnt had any deep connection with it so therefore her reactions and observations will be primary. That's the point. She's not a professor. It's Her Journey with Her abilities. All the people that she interviews -who have the best responses have been together for years. It is worthy to note that love may spark but will not last unless fanned and tended to, She finds this out at the end of the movie... Unless you treat love properly, it will die and walk away.

Let me just say that Ive been drinking (not drunk but not feeling extremely serious or critical) and I thought it was a cute, silly, innocent movie. I like Michael Cera (he's like the the italian version of Jessie Isenberg) and I think their (the lead characters) chemistry is true to form. They are smart, quirky, awkward young people just getting to know each other. They look like facebook's zuckerman and his wife but i digress...everyon . definition of love is different and its refreshing (evrn in fiction) when ppl admit they dont know what it is, how it feels or how to get there.

Heads up, talk about suicide by movie, this is the film that slits your wrists! UGH!

This documentry is about a young lady, I think is in her early 20's but acts like 10 who says she doesn't know what love is and is in capable of loving. That wouldn't have been so bad if she had a personality, animation and emotion that gave you the notion that she could develop into a warm giving person to possible receive love and inturn give love. Not happening here.

I kept thinking, maybe she's special and is not fully functional. She is supposed to be a comedianne and musician. Well, that left a hole in your gut. She can't sing or play music. People that do comedy for the most part are very intelligent folks. Girlfriend was lacking on many fronts.

They went around the country interviewing numerous people married, single, divorced and asked them what love was and there were some great answers. Not for girlfriend, she missed that boat.

The boy, Michael liked her a lot but dumped her, he said he couldn't do this any the camera rolling and following them everywhere. But I don't think it was just that I think he figured out that what was intreging in the begining turned out to be a head case that he couldn't drag around and call a girlfriend.

If you don't mind seeing about an hour and a half of your life slip away, sit through this documentry. If you don't want to give up that chunk of your life, take yourself to dinner, a real movie, a drink with real friends and family who love you and you love them.

Don't waste your time.

Strange little movie. The fancy camera work indicates multiple cameras or takes, and so gives the game away. The "exploration" of love isn't that revealing, and the plot is rather slow. Possibly self-indulgence on the part of the makers.
