It's 1907 and Addie Sullivan has found work at a lavish estate in Mercy Falls, California. She hopes to discover the truth of her heritage, but when she arrives at Eaton Hall, nothing is as it seems. Not the idyllic family she dreamt of, not the child she was hired to help, not even the aloof man she's immediately attracted to. And the danger she had hoped to escape has followed her, and she soon finds herself turning to Daniel North -- a man she views with suspicion -- for help. If Addie is to realize her own dream, she'll deprive the man she loves of his dream -- his right to the wealth and power of the Eaton name. She must come to realize that God is sufficient even in the hard times, and that getting familial approval is not worth her integrity.

This is my first book by CC and I must say that I agree with others when they say that CC knows how to keep you reading. Because if it wasn't for the mystery in this book, this book would have been a complete failure. The suspense was the only thing that kept me hanging on for dear life, everything else was from the dialouge, the setting and the characters lacked depth.. and then there was that ROMANCE..made me want to retch, it was unforgettably trite, overly sappy, and unconvincing. I cried out for Mercy from the torture of reading at many points during this book and was only encouraged to read on to find out 'what happened' but Oh the agony I endured!! But because i was persuaded to read it to the end, i gave it this rating. I must say I done knew who the villian was from early in the book. I guess that knowledge comes with experience...i'll take a bow now :)

I absolutely loved the book! It was thrilling at the end and I couldn't stop reading. Colleen Coble knows how to take the attention of the readers from the first page..

Colleen Coble is an excellent story telling. She keeps your interest throughout the entire story. It is best to read this story first before the other novels in the Mercy Falls series. Enjoy

This is light reading, takes a little while to get into the story which makes it a little different than the first 2 but enjoyed the outcome tramendously

The twist towards the end of the story places this book well above average. Good job!
