True Accounts of Self-defense

This collection of true stories examines incidents involving the use of firearms by ordinary citizens for personal protection against criminals. Three basic types of events are discussed: armed defense at home, at work, and in a public place. Each episode is explored in detail, with a look at the citizen involved as well as how their defensive actions aided them or could be improved. From convenience-store robberies to police arrests gone awry, these stories provide memorable reminders of firearm self-defense dos and don'ts.

This book has much potential but, in important ways, fails to convert it into a product. This book will not change anyone's mind. Those who support gun rights will feel vindicated while those who support gun control will dismiss the stories due to the author's style and interspersed rhetoric. And that is a shame. These are real stories that are germane to the debate but it fails to reach both sides of the cultural gulf. Those who dismiss it due to perceived racism and paranoia in the narrative will miss stories of middle eastern and african americans defending themselves when the police could not get there in time. Those who merely sing its praises will miss that if these stories were reworded in more neutral terms this could inform and improve the debate. Great potential that I hated to see wasted.
