A patron review from the Adult Summer Reading Game: This is a very clever young adult book about a young Italian aristocrat who, upon losing his fortune, makes a deal with the devil to give up bathing and grooming for 3 years, 3 months and 3 days in return for unlimited wealth. The language is sophisticated and smooth, and the setting is really well-described and rich. The character grows and changes, and you really feel sympathy for the young man as he grows more miserable and filthy. I found this a very sophisticated and engaging.

Great retelling of the Sicilian folktale about Don Giovanni. It's historical details give you a look at the culture and customs of the day. When an earthquake and tsunami leave Don Giovanni homeless and penniless, he makes a deal with the devil that almost costs him his soul. Of note is Donna Jo's comment at the end where she says that she had to put the writing aside when the tragic tsunami of 2004 in Thailand took place.

Good storytelling from author Donna jo Napoli. I enjoyed all of her retellings and this one far exceeded my expectations. Her descriptions and details of cultures, language and setting during the time period are well illustrated. The ending felt a little rushed.
