A good read, I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to the next.

The first of a "triple trilogy" (yes that's nine books and they are like candy, you can't stop at one) involving Bernard Sampson and his wife Fiona. Possibly the best fictional account of spying during the cold war (other than "The Spy Who Came in From the Cold").

OK, full disclosure, there is a prequel to the Bernard and Fiona Sampson series, it's "Winter" by the same author, set in Germany and Berlin, from 1900 to the chaos of WWII. The Winter family takes a prominent role in Bernard Sampson's life.

Other Deighton on WW2 are great also, Bomber is probably the best of the air war that I have read.

This is the first of Len Deighton's Bernard Sampson novels. I recommend that they be read in publication order, since the story flows from one to the next. He's a very good writer. I enjoyed these books very much.
