I have a 1955 copy of this novel. Take the technology from Stargate and strand survivalists in a Lord of the Flies scenario on a remote world. Somewhat unrealistically but typical of pulp sci-fi at the time, the chivalrous/dastardly male characters and slightly more emotional females rise above their circumstances to form a democratic government instead of becoming savages. The ending is a bit of a let down but is reasonable.
