A devastating look at the effects of domestic violence. There were a couple of times I had to put the book down as I was floored at the decisions people had made. The blame and guilt working itself down the generations. Believable and beautifully written.

fascinating story, utterly compelling characters, beautiful writing but it all fell apart at the end.

A first book from this writer from Hackney, London. Two characters recount their memories of a past event. Recommended.

Some of the characters were not quite believable to me - but I was certainly engaged in the story. Loved how the author used food throughout the book to immerse us in the culture. Booker Longlist 2011
