We are not alone. On Ganymede, breadbasket of the outer planets, a Martian marine watches as her platoon is slaughtered by a monstrous supersoldier. On Earth, a high-level politician struggles to prevent interplanetary war from reigniting. And on Venus, an alien protomolecule has overrun the planet, wreaking massive, mysterious changes and threatening to spread out into the solar system. In the vast wilderness of space, James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante have been keeping the peace for the Outer Planets Alliance. When they agree to help a scientist search war-torn Ganymede for a missing child, the future of humanity rests on whether a single ship can prevent an alien invasion that may have already begun . . .

An exciting and fast read, continuing the story started in "Leviathan Wakes". A great mix of the realistic (space travel is routine but still hard!) and the fantastic (something from outside of the solar system was sent here -- but who sent it and for what purpose?).

This is the sort of book that made me want to rush through it but at the same time slow down and absorb the details. And of course, it ends on a cliffhanger, so it is now on to Book 3!

This series is amazing, and a fun read. The writing makes it so much better than it is. The characters in this one are getting more developed and the plot thickens. This book starts off fast paced and never stops. Can't wait to read 3.

Holden and his crew are working for the OPA but that work and the events of the previous book have changed Holden and changed the solar system. We meet some great new POV characters as the protomolecule becomes something else, the crew is tasked with finding a missing girl, and the wheels of politics keep turning.

I do not usually give myself time to read Fiction. However, the series Expanse, made me want to read the actual book. I enjoyed it so much I decided to read the next instalment. I really enjoyed it; I loved Avasarala's character and the addition of Bobbi. It kept me interested enough I am have ordered book #3 in the series from my beloved library!!

Carries on The Expanse story with most of the same characters who gain complexity through examination of their histories and motivations. Great continuity from Leviathon Wakes and can't wait for the 3rd novel. Fast-paced and intense. Will they follow this same plot in the t.v. series? Although the protomolecule is far scarier in writing and imagination than what they showed on the screen in my opinion.

The Expanse series continues in this page turning, space opera, thriller. Some new points of view are added as Earth, Mars and the Belters stand on the brink of war, all the while an alien menace continues to grow in power.

Military sci fi is very tricky. It often veers into cliche and hyperbole. Although the middle volume of The Expanse doesn't avoid this, I don't think the authors were trying to. They were going for an over the top space adventure. I'm curious about the last book, but I can wait a bit to see how the story concludes.

Builds convincingly on the world created in the first book, "Leviathan", but the switch in format from just two POV characters to four might have been one too many (Holden is still Holden, Bobbie's chapters were OK, Avasarala was awesome, but I didn't really dig Prax, he came across as a way too one dimensional "fly on the wall").
