Movie achieved its iconic status because it was a modified UK Christmas pantomime with song, dance, buffoonery & slapstick. There was no cross-dressing by a guy to play -ahem!- handsome matron, but audience can't help to cheer the good guys & go boo-hiss on the villains.
The big difference that last years before Great War setting movie had a way bigger budget, way bigger sets, location shooting & it mocked spies & then Imperial Germany if indirectly.
Huh, the German actor who played Goldfinger played story within movie villain. Not surprising given book written by Ian Fleming.

The child catcher freaked me the f out. Otherwise, it hovers between painfully whimsical and perverse. Show it to children you don't like.

This is one of the first movies I got to go to the movie theater to watch. Loved the childhood memories it brought back. I enjoyed all the bonus features as well. Well worth the extra time.

This is a fun musical, but my son was greatly disappointed in how much it strayed from the Ian Fleming book by the same title which he greatly enjoyed.

A classic without compare. Some of the scary scenes were a little tough for younger kids, but overall, it was a hit. The many many many songs are great for those who love to sing, but may be a bit tiresome if that's not your thing.
