A gut-wrenching, spine-chilling and soul-shaking performance by a soft spoken Casey Affleck, even as he's killing you. Some of you beg to differ and claim this to be the 'worst movie ever.' And it's 'glamorizing violence.' But ask yourselves this: Why did you watch it? I'll tell you why. Because you Knew it was violent. Cause you knew it was Affleck. Cause you knew it was Thompson's. And if you KNEW all that, then you knew what you were getting into. Or you Should have cause Jim Thompson didn't do NICE. Casey Affleck don't do NEAT and if you didn't KNOW THAT, well then you shouldn't have watched the movie. Those of us who KNOW what to expect from these two very Talented people will keep on watching, even if it burns our irises and sets our brains on fire! Cause man, I LOVE that kinda s#*t! If YOU do too and want to see some f#@%ing brilliant performances also... See inside this container.

Disturbing movie. Good, but something is missing. Casey Affleck is great as the deranged lawman.

i know i'm in the minority here, but i really wasn't impressed with this film. I really like the younger Affleck and i see where they were going with it, i just don't think it panned out as well as they'd hoped. I know it didn't as well as i wanted it to.

I'm a big fan of pulp prince Jim Thompson and "The Killer Inside Me" is one of his most infamous books. So even though this received mixed reviews and generated some controversy for its violence, I was interested enough to check it out. The violence, which manifests itself in two particularly brutal beatings, is nasty, but it's meant to be and it's there in the novel. The real problem is that the movie is slow, too long (pulp needs to be quick and potent, like a shot of well whiskey), and misses the spirit of Thompson. British director Michael Winterbottom just doesn't have a feel for the material and it's too bland, despite the extreme violence. Casey Affleck as a seemingly normal small town sheriff who harbors a sick homicidal streak is the best thing about this as he captures a character who doesn't really know how psychotic he is. Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson have thankless roles as the women in his life, and Ned Beatty, Elias Koates, Bill Pullman, and the Mentalist co-star. "The Grifters" and the French "Coup de Torchon" are much superior Thompson adaptations. Some other example of Southwest noir: "Blood Simple," "Red Rock West," "Killer Joe," "Shotgun Stories," and "Thunderheart."

Wow. What a disturbing movie. It's good...but the violence is graphic and unsettling. I would have given this 4 stars but the ending is unbelievable to me. Still, Casey Affleck did an amazing job with his role.

If you can stomach the gore in this film, as well as the psychosexual deviancy of the main character, it is worth viewing - largely because it is quite novel it plot and acting styles. Has a good cast. I believe there was an earlier version of this story, which is from a book, back in the 1970s. I never saw that version, but I somehow doubt it was a graphic as this modern update is. This attempts to depict how sexual trauma in childhood can have powerful effects on a person in adulthood. Over the top, but point taken.

A twisted lady's man who was a soft spoken sheriff in a bygone Texas town saw a chance for revenge and took it even though it would involve brutal deaths of his lovers and friends. "Lou Ford: I got a foot on both sides of the fence. They were put there early, and they stayed put. I can't move. I can't jump. All I can do is wait until I split, right down the middle. " Who dreamed up the mind set of this extreme psychopath and his heinous deeds? Like it or not, pretty creative in mho. Wonder if the script stayed true to the novel by Jim Thompson.
