One of the best books I have read in the past year! I discovered Karen Finneyfrock in an otherwise drab Northwest poetry compilation. Her YA novel Starbird Murphy paints a skillful, balanced picture of a girl's experience growing up in a cult. Bonus: contains local Seattle landmarks. Couldn't put it down!

This book started a little slow but then it pulled me in. Starbird is a very loveable heroine. She is 16 years old and is put in the position of having to question almost every aspect of her life. She wants everything she knows and loves to be true but she needs to be strong enough to face the truth if it's not. Highly recommended!
