Guy Trilby is a 40-year-old who finds a loophole in the rules of The Golden Quill national spelling bee and decides to cause trouble by hijacking the competition. If you can handle wwwaaayyyy over the line humour, this movie is for you. Highly irreverent, silly, and sweet. Recommend.

I had no idea what I was getting into when I borrowed this DVD. I thought it might be something like the play, "The Putnam County Spelling Bee," which was performed in Lethbridge in 2015 or 2016. While featuring kids in a spelling competition, including one adorable Indo-American kid in particular (what a child prodigy at age 8!!), it is most definitely an ADULT movie, because of the no-holds-barred adult language and themes and scenes. Frankly, I thought it was very funny, with the bittersweet theme of child abandonment that is begun about one third through the movie, and left unsolved at the end.

A big part of the joke in this movie is that it's about words. And it's rated R for language.

Jason Bateman seems almost desperate to make kinda funny movies but this movie he was very mean and nasty to children I mean that is what he is like in most of his films but i think this movie took things a little too far .

Inventive and pretty hilarious. I've always liked Jason Bateman as well

First things first, there's a LOT of swearing in this but with the title you should have figured that out by yourself.

This movie had some pretty funny moments and jokes but there is a few too many sex scenes and women are very sexulized (Did I even spell that right? My brain is mush in all this summer heat.). Other than that, I liked this movie. The plot was good (not the greatest but it was good), most of the jokes were funny, and I loved the actor for Stewball (can't remember the kid's movie or in real life name).

This is a good movie to watch if your over 18 and it's a good hangout movie.

I am tolerant of bad words when used appropriately. This movie was totally over the top for being crude, profane and juvenile. I did not find that aspect of it at all humorous. The premise was an interesting one, but the continual foul language and ridiculous sex scenes were too much for me. This was one of the very few movies I gave up on part way through.

We laughed all the way through this very irreverent film. Just when you think it can't get any more so, Bateman launches the film into an even darker comedy plot line. Casting was perfect even though the story line is a bit weak. It is indeed freaking hilarious.

I got a good laugh out of this movie. Jason Bateman uses quite some vocabulary that might not be appropriate for all but sure is funny!!!
