10 WOMEN TO WATCH IN 2017--BookPage
A New York Times Notable Book of 2017

After one night's deadly mistake, a man will go to any lengths to save his family and his reputation.

Neurosurgeon Eitan Green has the perfect life--married to a beautiful police officer and father of two young boys. Then, speeding along a deserted moonlit road after an exhausting hospital shift, he hits someone. Seeing that the man, an African migrant, is beyond help, he flees the scene.

When the victim's widow knocks at Eitan's door the next day, holding his wallet and divulging that she knows what happened, Eitan discovers that her price for silence is not money. It is something else entirely, something that will shatter Eitan's safe existence and take him into a world of secrets and lies he could never have anticipated.

WAKING LIONS is a gripping, suspenseful, and morally devastating drama of guilt and survival, shame and desire from a remarkable young author on the rise.

This novel brings to the surface the complexity of a refugee crisis in Israel. It is described and addressed in a thought-provoking way that is uncomfortable and like a well-written psychological mystery, it draws you in to stay to the end. It abruptly starts with a crime committed by a doctor whose wife is an investigative police officer. As the doctor is forced into a situation that is dangerous, his relationship with his ethically professional wife starts to crack. There are no answers in this book only an awakening that no one can ignore what is happening everywhere.

Tedious. Did something get lost in translation?

The narrative of the story examines the complex emotions that arise when ones ethics are challenged. What better person to have this tested on is a doctor. "Doing the right thing" is personal, professional, and affects relationships. The doctor, Eitran, is put to the test in serious life threatening and life changing situations. Who lives, who dies? Will the truth be revealed? I felt the story lacked, at times, a high enough or low enough point in telling that could have provided more astonishment. Throughout the book inner conflict as well as outer conflict play itself out until the reader reaches the final end result.

Such a terrific read.
How a routine act interrupts a comfortable life .
Raced through this tale of extortion, fear and lies
With a knot in my stomach.
So good.

To quote Carla McKay, reviewer for the Daily Mail, " a literary thriller that is used as a vehicle to explore big moral issues."
