The riveting story behind the first manned mission to the moon, focusing on Neil Armstrong and the decade leading to the historic Apollo 11 flight. A visceral and intimate account told from Armstrong2s perspective, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the film explores the triumphs and the cost, on Armstrong, his family, his colleagues and the nation itself; of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Interesting how few people liked this move on this site....I loved it, played the exciting last segment over, the landing on the moon, very realistic and quite moving....the opening sequence as well, in the X15, the rather primitive - by today's standards - vehicle that tested the technology for space travel first developed in the 1960s.....to get ready for the moon flight, Armstrong went into "the zone" (total focus), and the movie documents some of the effects of this rather radical change in his personality, on his family and his personal life....he and his wife suffer a serious loss as well, and the movie shows how he deals with it, very moving indeed....won't give away the ending, but it is very well played by the cast, and Ryan Gosling especially did a great job....maybe the difference in my enjoyment of the movie is that it brought back memories for me of the space race with the Russians, and the politics behind the amazing achievements of the NASA space program....

3 star Not bad. Special effects very real. It was like you the viewer was on this trip to the moon.

I wasn't interested in the film, but saw it on the "for a week" shelf and thought I would try it. Still wasn't interested. Very slow, boring.

The special effects were superb and very realistic, but the casting missed the mark with Ryan Gosling, who played Neil Armstrong as if he were an autistic child. Claire Foy nearly made up for it with an outstanding supporting performance, but as such turned it into little more than a soap opera. Using Gil Scott-Heron as a foil to the space program was beyond disrespectful, giving nary a nod to the competing social interests he rallied for, or exploring the wider context of the politics of the era. This is simply not compelling cinema.

My husband and I love anything about documented space history. We were in the airline industry for a total of 55 yrs. and he worked, then, volunteered, at Seattle’s Museum of Flight for 15 years. So I feel we’re qualified to say: interesting documentary but boring movie!

Drawn out way too long and frankly was a boring soap-opera take on one of America's finest achievements. "The Right Stuff" was much more truthful and engaging.

IMDb posted the best ones though there's more, many technical though. These ones are interesting as well:

I barely lasted two minutes in that ice bath. Of course, I suppose
NASA's more interested in the psychological reaction.
-Well, I think I made it pretty clear that I thought it was cold.
===
As you know, our decision to forego direct ascent in favor of a lunar orbit
rendezvous approach to the eventual Moon mission has had a major impact
on Gemini. Do you have any thoughts on that decision?
-Well, even considering von Braun's initial criticism, it seems that the payload saved by parking the primary vehicle in orbit and sending a smaller ship
down to the lunar surface is well worth the resulting challenges.
What do you see as the challenges?
-Cislunar navigation, for one. And rendezvous and docking.
===
Mrs. Armstrong! Have all your prayers been answered?
-Yes, yes, they have.
How would you describe the flight?
-Well, uh, I can only say it was outta this world.
