In The Case for Trump, award-winning historian and political commentator Victor Davis Hanson explains how a celebrity businessman with no political or military experience triumphed over sixteen well-qualified Republican rivals, a Democrat with a quarter-billion-dollar war chest, and a hostile media and Washington establishment to become president of the United States -- and an extremely successful president. Trump alone saw a political opportunity in defending the working people of America's interior whom the coastal elite of both parties had come to scorn, Hanson argues. And Trump alone had the instincts and energy to pursue this opening to victory, dismantle a corrupt old order, and bring long-overdue policy changes at home and abroad. We could not survive a series of presidencies as volatile as Trump's. But after decades of drift, America needs the outsider Trump to do what normal politicians would not and could not do.

I enjoyed reading The Case for Trump. Hanson got a lot right about the Trump election. The deep state chapter was great. Some of the things about Hillary were good.

HMMM, he totally left out the part about Steve Bannon, and assumedly many of his cult followers, believing Trump is sent from God.

If you listen to the Orange Idiot and think that he is a genius than there is something seriously wrong with your brain and you should get a psychological exam.

Just the assumptions in the description of this book indicate that it's based largely on rhetoric and the talking points of the Republican party, a party that has become so partisan it has forfeited its credibility entirely.

Trump supporters like me should like it. Insightful with interesting background history. Keep your dictionary handy. Painful for anti-Trumpists.

If you think Trump is wrecking his country or even doing a poor job you should read this book so you can use Hanson's narrative to strengthen your rationale.

Hanson soberly describes events from 2015 to late 2018. Trump character traits are presented even-handedly. He includes clear analyses of what he sees happening and why. The strength of his arguments lies in what Hanson calls subtexts - underlying facts or stories ignored or missed by friend and foe - and which give insight into what is going on.

The depth of this analysis leads Hanson to see Donald Trump as a tragic historical figure who serves his country by stating the obvious and following a traditional conservative path.

Mr. Hanson was getting blow-back but no argument on his latest book from a fellow Canadian before it was published. The January 13, 2019 comment from naturalist has been removed. The Case for Trump came out March 5th.

For our U.S. brethren we have our own scandal - some say Trudeau did what Trump was accused of but TDS also causes blood pressure to spike north of the border.
USA and Canada are similar in many ways - Hanson's uncovering of political and social issues in the US reveals parallels obvious to Canadian readers.
