Devils Race by AVI is a short little horror novel for older teens. A 16 year old boy named John Proud wants to know more about his family history and where he got his name from when given a school assignment. He goes on a hike with his uncle and cousin in search of his great-great-great-great grandfathers grave, who was hung in 1854 for being a demon. Only when he gets there, he finds not only the grave, but John Proud sitting on it. He was a spitting image of the younger, and less famous, John Proud. now the demon ancestor wants to take over Johns life, bit by bit, from controlling thoughts to strange occurrences. Can John defeat this evil that has come for him before he disappears completely? This book was a very short read, and it deffienetly wasn't what I was expecting. It was very brief, and not detailed at all. I thoroughly did not enjoy it. Some of it didn't make sense, such as kissing his cousin?? That didn't sit well with me. There really wasn't that big of a climax, and not everything fit together, such as his accusations of his cousin. The book was short, I get that, but it was very poorly done overall. There could have been a lot more details, and a lot better of a story line in my opinion. I don't think I would recommend this book to anyone else, and I deffinetely would not read any others by this author.
