The third in the Shardlake series and this time the plot deftly works in Henry VIII, Catherine Howard, Jane Rochford, Thomas Culpepper and Francis Dereham. The plot is intriguing, the climax is unexpected and the antagonist is a shock. The author develops Shardlake even more in this book. Shardlake is clever and not pretentious, moral and not sanctimonious, and very, very human. The reader not only admires and respects him, but starts to love him. Can't wait for the next!
