If you're a fan of semi-obscure film noir, this is a treat. Released in 1952, this is a tough, pulpy crime film about a heist. Unlike other films that spend time with the planning and execution of the heist, this is about the aftermath. An ex-con is framed for the robbery and goes on a mission to track down the real crooks, which takes him to Mexico. John Payne is the lead and I have no idea who he is, but character actors Lee Van Cleef and Jack Elma, who both did a lot of westerns, play two of the robbers. Directed by Phil Karlson, whose eclectic resume includes an Elvis film, 2 Dean Martin films, and "Walking Tall." Despite claims, I don't see much connection between this and "Reservoir Dogs," aside from the heist plot. This DVD is of so-so quality and has no special features, so it could use an update.
