A Few Red Drops
A Few Red Drops The Chicago Race Riots of 1919 By Hartfield, Claire Book - 2018

This was an excellent easy read about the week long Chicago Race Riot of 1919 and the conditions that brought it about: The great migration stress on the "Black Belt" area with limited housing for those of color; immigration influx by other ethnic groups; meat packing plants owners pitting the groups against each other during strikes; the loss of jobs once World War I veterans returned. Many were struggling to cope and it was easy to blame "the other" for the dire circumstances. She also gave good history on the the rise of the Urban League and their strategies to help African American newcomers in Chicago.
