I've been re-reading Janette Oke's books this summer. I loved them as a girl and am happy to find they still are an entertaining and light read. I really liked the historical details in this one and the way Ms. Oke imagined the emotional consequences of mail-order bride phenomena. However, about two-thirds of the way through the book, the interesting details stopped, and it became a bit of a cluttered telling of which babies came next and how Kathleen and Donnigan became Christians. It was a nice story, but I was hoping for more of the same interesting historical details throughout.
