Gecko, Arjay, and Terence are given a second chance in Doug Healy’s halfway house. They are barred from doing anything other than going to school and community service, and if they mess up they have to return to prison. Mr. Healy is very patient, finding similarities between his own past and all three of the boys. The story takes a bizarre, far-fetched turn, but perhaps the unpredictability of the book is what makes it worth reading. Ultimately the book has interesting takes on responsibility, overcoming a trouble past, camaraderie, and finding the good in people.
